At the request of the city of Thunder Bay, Elevate NWO operated extended drop-in hours (8:30am-9:00pm) from July 14-17th. This was done in an effort to support people living outside and fire evacuees in Thunder Bay by providing indoor shelter from poor air quality conditions. Elevate NWO served breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner for these four days, providing people with a place to rest and protection from outdoor conditions, filling a service gap between when agencies typically close until shelters open for the night. Elevate NWO served over 100 dinners per day during these extended hours and workers were available to connect attendees of the drop-in center to resources and other supportive spaces.
