State of Emergency Request: Homelessness Crisis in Thunder Bay

January 30, 2026

Elevate and community partners have called on the City of Thunder Bay to declare a state of emergency in response to the growing homelessness crisis. In January, NAN Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler and Fort William First Nation Chief Michelle Solomon renewed that request following the tragic death of yet another unhoused community member. We urge all citizens to speak with their elected representatives — local, provincial, and federal — and demand urgent action. No matter what circumstances led someone to live on the streets, we can all agree: no one deserves to die there.
